10th District Grand High Priest's Reception

Friday, April 29th, Julia and I attended the Tenth District's Grand High Priest's reception in Mansfield.   Mansfield is about 50 miles and an hour south of Medina.   This year the reception was held in a new location, "Ed Pickens' Cafe on Main" which did a very nice job of preparing and serving dinner.   We had ham or chicken, potatoes and veggy with assorted pie for dessert.

The event was fairly well attended and since this is within by Symbolic Lodge district I know most of the Companions either through Chapter or Lodge.  It is as if I was in my own 17th Capitular District when I come to the 10th District.

This dinner is also when the District gives out the Grand Chapter awards and some District awards.   There are three District Awards that I want to mention as they may give other Districts some ideas.

The Franz K. Hall award is named after a Past Grand High Priest from Shelby.   It is given to the Chapter that has the highest percentage of its members at their own inspection. King Cyrus #207 was this year's recipient.

The Kathy Crabbs award named after the wife of Past Grand High Priest Robert Crabbs.   This is given to a lady for dedication, love and service to the 10th District.  This year it went to Jan Estep

The Robert D. Crabbs award, which is named for Kathy's husband who is a member of Shelby Chapter.  This award is for dedication to Capitular Masonry.   This year's recipient was REC Donald Starr.

I would again like to congratulate those who received these awards and thank them for the service they give to the 10th District.

After the dinner and awards presentations I was given a few moments to speak.  I am using this time to talk about things that are going on within the Grand Chapter of Ohio and will be topics at our Grand Chapter session.

Since there are still 11 GHP receptions and I am talking about the same topics at each one, I won't use them here.

After I finished presentations were made to both Julia and I.   Julia received both a great deal of products from the Wooster/Mansfield area and a check to be given to the Western Reserve Masonic Community's dementia unit fund.  She has request donations to this fund rather than gifts.    It has been a tradition for the 10th District to give the GHP a copper bucket made by D. Picking & Co. in Bucyrus. On the bottom of the bucket is your title, name, and year of service.   It is a very nice keepsake for your year.  On behalf of Julia and myself, thank you 10th District.

"til the next time.
